It's ironic that a Wallen twin is a police officer, since the singer has had trouble with the law in the past. In December, Wallen pleaded guilty to two misdemeanor counts of reckless endangerment, stemming from his throwing a chair off of Eric Church's downtown Chief's Bar, while intoxicated in April of 2024. As part of his plea, Wallen was sentenced to one week of incarceration and two years of probation.

Eric Church's Response To Morgan Wallen Throwing A Chair At His Bar

Church has been a supporter of Wallen throughout his career, including his other public debacle, when he used a racial slur while intoxicated in 2021. After Wallen's arrest, Church still defended Wallen, praising his character in spite of his mishaps.

"I have a lot of acquaintances in the industry," Church tells Rolling Stone. "I don't have a lot of people that are friends. And what I've always loved about Morgan, and I could say the same thing about Jelly Roll, is their unabashed honesty about their flaws and their humanity. When he screws up, sometimes just even privately, he owns it. There's that vulnerability of 'I'm flawed and I'm sorry and I screwed up.' There's something about that that is wholesome."

Because of Church's close friendship with Wallen, he says he has no doubt about the quality of a person he is, even if some people don't get to see it.

"I know the guy," Church maintains. "And once you know the guy, it's a lot easier to be able to know the heart of that guy and to know where his moral compass is. And he's got a great one.... I remember when things took off for [me], and it's nowhere near the way it took off for him, but that's a really weird time. It can be really hard to deal with. We talked about a lot of that, and the shortest answer is, I would trust him with my kids."
