Did Chris Young Perform Drunk Over the Weekend? Some Fans Think So

Fans who went to see Chris Young perform at the Boots In the Park Festival in Tucson shared their disappointment online.

Country music fans in Tucson must have been pretty excited when Boots In the Ground relocated there from Phoenix this time of year. To have stars Chris Young, Dustin Lynch, Tucker Westmore, and Avery Anna headline the festival, which took place on Saturday, Oct. 20, seemed like icing on the cake.

However, that excitement quickly faded for some fans who came to see the 40-year-old performer. A clip of the singer performing his hit "I'm Comin' Over" shows the singer clearly struggling to get through the song.

What Happened in the Chris Young Video?

The clip, which was posted over the weekend, was captioned, "When you pay over a hundred dollars to see Chris Young and he's drunkedy drunk drunk. WOW."

The user who posted the video has a point. Young is clearly struggling, almost mumbling at one point. Additionally, his voice is moving more slowly than his band, and he's clearly trying to keep up. Taken out of context, it would seem like Young may have been performing with the help of some Jack Daniels.

Fans Were Quick To Judge

With the caption on the video, it's no surprise that many fans were quick to agree that Young was under the influence.

"Saw him a couple years ago, he was drunk there too... Will not pay to see him again."

"Well this is very disappointing. I love him. He's my favorite country singer. What a bummer."

"His concert that I went to was one of my favorites. This is sad."

"Unacceptable"

"Disappointed."

"Omg he sounds horrible"

"It's like watching someone drunk singing karaoke"

"Unacceptable"

"He must have a drinking problem, he's going fast, them slow, up and down in volume. He's definitely drunk."

Other fans said, "Not so fast."

But some fans pointed out Young's issues may have been technical-based, rather than alcohol-influenced.

"It seems like audio issues maybe?? I've seen him and he's great."

"It kinda sounds like he can't hear himself maybe?"

"I think it's his ears that he hears himself back on. His PA man probably stinks."

"I've seen him in concert and never had this problem. It may be the sound system."

Need more proof? This clip of Young performing the same song shows that whatever issues he had were short-lived.

Experiencing a less-than-perfect performance, especially after spending a good chunk of change, can be disappointing. Still, it's important to remember that concerts rely on many people behind the scenes to succeed. When something goes wrong, fans may quickly blame the headliner, not the person behind the soundboard.

Even this clip of Young singing "Gettin' You Home" shows that his troubles didn't last for the entire set.
