Megan Moroney Doesn’t Tell Her Exes When Songs Are About Them, and She’s Certainly Not Telling You

Megan Moroney's probably not gonna tell you if a song's about you, but she'll find a way to let you know regardless.

Megan Moroney admitted that it's not her number one priority to let her exes know when songs are about them. "I usually don't give them a heads up," she said in a recent interview with Today.

The "6 Months Later" singer has been known to release a song about an ex or two. Honestly, it's not surprising to hear her say she wouldn't want to communicate that to the exes themselves. Moroney is up for six CMA nominations this year, and she's still riding the high from New Artist last year. She probably doesn't have time to reach out to her old flings.

She told Fox News Digital, "I think I've never been more dialed in with my career than I am now. I really don't have time for a relationship, and I think it's reflected in my album. There's two love songs that are maybe kind of hopeful, and then it ends real quick, and that is an accurate representation of how my love life recently went. So, yeah, I'm focused on the music and my career, and that's kind of all about all I have time for right now." After all the success she's been having with Am I Okay? it totally makes sense that dating isn't on her radar.

Moroney Says She'll Never Reveal Who Her Songs Are About

On Jake Shane's podcast, Moroney revealed that writing is an emotional outlet for her in many ways. "Writing for me is so therapeutic... If I didn't have somewhere to put those feelings, they would just be festering," she shared. Having earned a reputation as the "emo cowgirl" early on, Megan is known for being candid in her music. She's not afraid to call out a man, and she certainly doesn't need anyone's permission. This is what a lot of people think happened with her song "Tennessee Orange", a tune that a lot of her fans believe might be about Morgan Wallen.

While paying a visit to the Call Her Daddy podcast in July of 2024, Moroney revealed that she had, in fact, been seeing the famous country star. However, she made sure to emphasize that they "never exclusively" dated and that it was never "a relationship."

In an interview with SiriusXM's The Highway, she even admitted that the shirt she wears in the promotional picture for "Tennessee Orange", which is a Tennessee Volunteers shirt, was Wallen's. The song is about a Georgia girl, who Moroney is, falling for a Tennessee Volunteers fan, which Wallen also is. "Yeah, I mean it is his shirt, "she shared before adding, "but it's just a shirt."

Even with all the evidence, it's highly unlikely that Moroney will ever admit who any of her music is about. When asked before, the "Am I Okay?" singer has always said, "I will not say who I sing my songs about ever." With the CMA awards on the horizon, and a new album in the works, it definitely doesn't seem like she's gonna let her secrets slip anytime soon.
