Why Sing and Tour? "I Do It for the Joy"
The fabled frontman, 63, isn't hitting the touring trail because he loves people shouting his name and giving him an ego boost. Quite the opposite, he says. Per the outlet via Today, Bon Jovi said, "I'm not that applause junkie. I do it for the joy and I do it for the art. The rest of it is great because I'm good at it. But if you couldn't do it from a place of joy, what's the motivation? I have other things in my life. It's what I do. It's not who I am."
Bon Jovi Candidly Discussed His Vocal Cord Issue
He explained that his vocal cord was "dying." A surgeon did a procedure called a medialization laryngoplasty that evidently remedied the problem. The legendary rocker from New Jersey said that he feels he has the stamina to undertake the rigors of touring. "I think I can confidently say that I can go and do my two and a half hours night after night after night. But I wouldn't do it unless it was that."
He admitted that bouncing back was not easy. Still, Bon Jovi hung in there. "The road has been long. It's been tough. But I persevered." This is one gritty guy!
He likened the intense prep for a tour to gearing up for a marathon. "Anyone can go for a run. Being able to go the distance is a whole different set of commitment. You have to physically, mentally and spiritually be ready to do that again."
The fans can't wait!
