Steve Regal, the wrestler better known to many enthusiastic fans as "Mr. Electricity," passed away in July at the age of 73. Per TMZ, the National Wrestling Alliance (NWA) confirmed the sad news of his death on Monday, December 8. According to an obituary, Regal died on July 30, 2025. He lived in Greenwood, Indiana and was born on August 25, 1951. The cause of his passing has not been given.

The National Wrestling Alliance Issued a Statement
The organization issued a statement on X that read as follows. "The National Wrestling Alliance is saddened to note the passing of former NWA World Junior Heavyweight Champion "Mr. Electricity" Steve Regal. Defeating Denny Brown for the title, this flashy and charismatic grappler reigned atop pro wrestling's junior heavyweight in 1986, paving a path for generations to come. The NWA extends its most sincere thoughts to Regal's family, friends and fans during this time."
The Announcement Seems To Have Caught People by Surprise
Per dailymail.co.uk, a wrestling web site called PWinsider claimed that "the wrestling community" was not aware of Regal's death. In addition, "...one promoter was even trying to contact him for a signing event scheduled for 2026."
Regal retired from the sport of wrestling in 1996, per the outlet.
Fans Are Clearly Feeling the Pain of Regal's Loss
Fans also expressed their shock and sadness at Regal's death on social media. They evidently thought highly of Regal as a person and as an athlete.
Posted one, "A true loss. Strength, charisma, legacy — remembered. Condolences to his family, friends, and the fans who grew up watching him shine." Noted another, "Steve Regal was the nicest guy, horrible news about his passing. I met Steve in 1986 and we chatted for an hour and took this pic together, RIP to a class act!"
Observed a third, "Oh man, this is sad to hear. He was such a great talent and very underappreciated IMO. RIP Mr. Electricity, thank you for the great memories." And from someone else came this. "Oh crap. Mr. Electricity! That's so sad to hear. I had a few good exchanges with him here on X a few times. Nice guy."
