However, this year's spectacle took an unexpected turn when a protester breached security near some of the world's most high-profile guests.

An anti-Jeff Bezos protester reportedly rushed toward the event, coming "just 20 feet or so" from celebrities before police intervened.

The individual is believed to be part of a group protesting Amazon over its labor practices.

According to Page Six, eyewitnesses described a sudden disturbance near the venue entrance.

The protester allegedly created a "commotion across the street" before forcing his way through a crowd of fans and media behind a steel barrier.

"We're told he leapt over the first of two steel barriers standing between him and the party, sprinted through traffic coming down the famed avenue along the side of Central Park, and vaulted the second steel barrier," Page Six's Oli Coleman wrote.

The report states that "nearly a dozen" police officers quickly tackled the individual before removing him from the scene.

As the incident unfolded, designer Tom Ford was seen wrapping his arms around actress Julianne Moore.

Bezos Presence and Heavy Security Linked to Ongoing Protests

Bezos and his wife, Lauren Sánchez Bezos, had reportedly walked the red carpet more than an hour earlier and were inside the venue when the incident occurred.

"The Bezos are the sponsors and honorary chairs of the event, and security has been heavy in the area partly because of ongoing protests against the e-tail titan, who has been accused of exploitative labor practices," Coleman added.

This year's Met Gala theme focused on costume art, with co-chairs including Beyoncé, Nicole Kidman, Venus Williams, and Anna Wintour.

A host of major names attended, including Madonna, Sabrina Carpenter, Bad Bunny, Heidi Klum, and Katy Perry.

Beyoncé made her first appearance at the event in a decade, wearing a design by Olivier Rousteing.

She arrived alongside her husband Jay-Z and their daughter, Blue Ivy, 14, one of the youngest guests in attendance.

Meanwhile, Rihanna and her partner A$AP Rocky made a fashionably late arrival.

The Bajan star wore "a custom Maison Margiela by Glenn Martens gown encrusted with thousands of jewels and beads".

Rocky, who co-chaired last year's Met Gala, arrived in custom Chanel.
