Hardy, who is also 20, was shot in the upper leg while attending a rap concert on Sunday, May 10, in his native Mississippi. At least one other person was injured.
The Mizzou star is in stable condition after undergoing surgery. He has since returned to Missouri.
Harris, the alleged shooter, was identified via surveillance footage. An arrest warrant was issued based on witness information, per NBC Sports.
Harris is awaiting extradition to Mississippi, the Associated Press reported Friday, citing the Laurel Police Department. He is expected to be charged with two counts of aggravated assault.
During the investigation, three people of interest were taken into custody regarding the shooting. They have since been released without charges, per AP and NBC Sports.
Ahmad Hardy Likely To Resume Football Career Once Recovered
Despite the scary incident, Hardy is expected to recover fully and resume his football career. On Tuesday, ESPN's Pete Thamel reported that Hardy will begin rehabbing immediately "with the goal of playing this year."
Hardy led the SEC in rushing last season with 1,649 yards. He earned first-team Associated Press All-America honors and SEC Newcomer of the Year.
While Hardy should be healthy enough to play, Missouri football head coach Eli Drinkwitz cast doubt that his return to the Tigers is guaranteed.
"There is an opportunity that he could be back this year. There's an opportunity he couldn't be back this year. So, we won't know those answers for a few weeks," Drinkwitz said of Hardy earlier this week. "But he's got the full support of MU Health Care, and he's got the full support of our team as we continue to help him recover and work it day by day."
