"Y'all may have heard that I'm kinda winding down, and in fact this is my last road show of my career," Jackson shares (per Taste of Country).
"Y'all gonna make me tear up out here," he continues. "But I will say, this is my last road show out here, but we're planning on doing a big finale show in Nashville next summer sometime. It just felt like I had to end it all where it all started. And that's in Nashville, Tennessee. Music City."
Jackson and his wife Denise moved to Nashville from Georgia in 1985. in 1991, Jackson released his debut album, Here In The Real World, and the rest is history.
"It started 40 years ago this September, my wife and I drove to Nashville in an old U-Haul trailer and chased this dream," he continued. "It's been a crazy ride. I lived the American dream for sure, and I'm so blessed and thank y'all all so much for your support for the music."
Why Alan Jackson Is Retiring
Jackson is choosing to retire because of his health. The talented singer-songwriter was diagnosed with Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease, a degenerative nerve condition related to muscular dystrophy and Parkinson's disease.
Jackson went public with the news in 2021, after quietly battling the disorder for 10 years.
"I have this neuropathy and neurological disease," Jackson revealed on the Today Show. "It's genetic that I inherited from my daddy ... There's no cure for it, but it's been affecting me for years, and it's getting more and more obvious. And I know I'm stumbling around on stage. And now I'm having a little trouble balancing, even in front of the microphone, and so I just feel very uncomfortable."
Although sad, Jackson is ready to step away from the road, and spend more time at home.
"Have had a wonderful career, and getting into my twilight years. All my daughters are grown ... [I] enjoy spending more time at home, and don't want to be away like I had to be in my younger days," Jackson says. "I don't tour as much now as I did 10 years ago. But I think it's getting time to start thinking about hanging it up full-time."
