Sam Sparks Is Not Your Typical Contestant On 'Idol'

Per Taste Of Country, "Sparks' performance was all the more impactful because he auditioned from a wheelchair after a horrifying accident paralyzed him from the waist down." A car aficionado, he even assembled a vehicle at the tender age of 15. However, a couple of years ago, Sparks' car left the road and he unfortunately sustained a broken back. He is now "paralyzed from the waist down."

Music helped restore Sparks' spirits after such a life-changing ordeal. Speaking to judges Carrie Underwood, Luke Bryan, and Lionel Richie, he shared, ""It absolutely got me through what I was going through. I guess the two things I've always loved are going fast and being loud. And I still get to do those things today. I just do it a little different."

Sparks Dramatically Sang An Original Song Titled 'Colorado Gray'

Sparks performed an impactful song he wrote. "He accompanied himself on acoustic guitar as he belted out the powerful song, which finds him asking how he can find peace after going through so much," according to the outlet.

Sparks courage and his unvarnished honesty seemed to get to Luke Bryan. He was apparently ready to cry. The trio of judges were impressed by the 25-year-old young man who has been tested to the absolute limit yet still perseveres.

The Judges Reacted Very Positively To Him

Luke Bryan was bowled over. "I love how your voice is yours and different than what we have."

Lionel Richie lauded Sparks' "very cool sound."

Carrie Underwood agreed. She said, "I think you definitely have something in here and in here that I would like to hear more of." Underwood gestured to her throat and heart.

The judges unanimously put Sparks through to Hollywood. Good luck in Tinseltown, Sam!
