'American Idol' Finalist Thunderstorm Artis Stands Apart From The Crowd With “Colors of the Wind” Performance

With a name like Thunderstorm Artis, it's a wonder the man needs to put himself through the American Idol meat grinder at all. He should have just been picked up at birth and given an invitation to fame.

But, instead, he has not just been through this whole ordeal once, but twice. Originally, Thunderstorm Artis appeared on The Voice. But, with only two people ahead of him, he failed. It wasn't the trash can for him though, and he has since had a middling career.

He has played alongside artists like Train and the Zac Brown Band and even headlines his own shows. However, he fancied another show at TV Show fame, so put himself back in it. Now, Thunderstorm Artis is wowing judges on American Idol.

It's Disney Week

I imagine the crossover between Disney adults and American Idol viewers is pretty big, which is why Disney Week is always a hit. This week, the final seven contestants duke it out to see who would make it through to the final six.

Since the very beginning Thunderstorm Artis has been wowing judges with his performance, and he didn't slip this week either. The talented vocalist chose to sing 'Colors of The Wind', which is a track from Disneys 1995 Pocahontas.

The song references the ignorance and brutality of the original American colonizers. It speaks of how they came across the US, claimed it for themselves, but understood nothing of the people or natural life that existed there. The song Thunderstorm Artis sung for American Idol is all about the evils committed during the hostile takeover of the continent.

It was a bold and political choice for the talented singer. The song comes not only with some real vocal challenges but also sends a message. It's easy to forget there are often some moving, and powerful points made with Disney music.

He's garnered quite the following. Since his last appearance on a talent show, he's got a lot of social media influence. This was a problem for some, but as the show goes on, people are realizing he's a genuine talent.

If Thunderstorm Artis wants to use shows like American Idol to shoehorn into fame, more power to him. It's hardly the easiest or most forgiving, that's for sure.
