And it's hilarious just how long it took for Luke Combs to respond to poor Zimmerman.
First things first... let's bring up the elephant in the room. I know you're desperately wondering whether "Backup Plan" will feature on my weekly ranking of all the new country songs released in the past week. I can sense your anticipation through the screen.
Although I can't say anything for certain, I will say that "Backup Plan" is one of those songs that feel manually constructed, rather than written from the heart. It's a vague song about not giving up that has one verse, one bridge, and three super long choruses. If you want to make a hit song without having to do much lyric writing, then this is the formula for you.

Bailey Zimmerman shared to Instagram today a screenshot of the texts that he sent Luke Combs about featuring on his single, "Backup Plan." Hilariously, it took Luke Combs just over a month to reply.
A hopeful Zimmerman sent Luke Combs a message on January 20. He also sent over a recording of the song, and asked if Combs would want in on it. "I think me and you could crush," he said.
On February 22, Combs finally got back to him with confirmation. And three months after that, they released the song.

What I find hilarious is just how many people commented on how long it took Luke Combs to respond to Bailey Zimmerman.
