Billy Bob Thornton's 'Landman' Character Gives Colorful Description of 'The View'

The View's panel of female co-hosts don't typically hold back, especially when they talk politics. The women on the lively ABC network daytime chatfest - Sara Haines, Whoopi Goldberg, Alyssa Farrah Griffin, Ana Navarro, Joy Behar, and Sunny Hostin - come out swinging and tend to express rather liberal-leaning opinions. Taylor Sheridan, the wizard behind Yellowstone and its Western-themed prequels and spinoffs, had some fun with that recently on Landman.

Thornton's Tommy Jokingly Shreds the Daytime Show

Per People, Billy Bob Thornton's character, Tommy, gives his dad, T.L., who is played by Sam Elliott, a crash course in a nutshell on what The View is about. The older man is evidently unfamiliar with the show. Tommy says it's "a 'bunch of pissed off millionaires b***hing about how much they hate millionaires — and [President Donald] Trump and men and you and me — and everybody else they got a bee up their a** about.'"

Tommy also says the program is "pretty funny." He added, "Well, it ain't joke funny, it's like fart in church funny, you know what I mean?" T.L. wasn't quite buying it, though. He retorted, "That don't sound funny, either."

Sam Elliott Opened up About the Character He Portrays

Elliott, 81, referred to T.L. as a "fractured man," per the outlet, He explained, "We're going to spend much of this season seeing T.L. early on — but then it becomes both of us, I think — healing that relationship that's falling," He was speaking of his and son Tommy's complex relationship.

The actor thinks very highly of Thornton, 70, and seems energized to be working with him. "It's just a treat to go to work and be with him. I've loved him from afar for a long time, and now I get to love him up close. It's special."

Thornton Praised Older Actors

Per the program CBS Sunday Morning, Thornton said, "We've all seen each other get older. And when I see that wisdom and see the respect that people have for them, it just kind of makes everything melt away somehow. I mean, I'm in a successful band and I'm in a successful show. Every day when I wake up, I just say I'm blessed. That's really it."
