Blue Bloods has enjoyed 14 seasons, although its final episode will air on December 13. The final episode will feature one final Reagan family dinner scene, and emotions ran high for the cast as they sat down together on set one final time.
"We were all walking this real delicate tightrope during the finale, knowing that it was the last episode and feeling very emotional each day," Wahlberg said.
"All of us were so desperately trying to cherish every moment," he recalled.
When they finished filming is when the emotions broke out. "I think when we finished filming is what I'll remember most. We all just kind of sat there for a long time, and I think everyone was hesitating to say something to say goodbye because A, nobody wanted to, and B, everyone knew once somebody starts talking, it's a wrap."
"The tissues are coming out and everyone's going to start crying, and sure enough they did."
Donnie Wahlberg Broke Out Into Tears Hearing Tom Selleck Recite Poetry
The moment of Donnie crying for hours came at a tender realization.
Wahlberg said that Tom Selleck started reciting a poem. The actor said that watching Tom Selleck talk reminded him of watching Selleck on the big screen as a child. Interestingly, the first scene they ever shot together was a dinner scene.
To think of the cyclical nature of the dinner scenes, and finally realizing that he got to act with a childhood hero for 14 years finally brought Wahlberg to tears.
"And now here I am, closing out 14 years with him, and I allowed myself to think about that while he was talking," Wahlberg said.
"And yeah, I was gone. I started crying and didn't stop for a few hours."
The ending of Blue Bloods is an end of an era, and it's affected every actor apart of the crew. It's clear they all cherished each other, and it's sad to see them have to say goodbye.
