Fans are still mourning the loss of Blue Bloods as much as Tom Selleck, but at least they have Boston Blue. Although a major recast means not even the persisting characters are safe from change. But don't worry, it's not Danny Reagan.

According to Deadline, the showrunners are taking one of the main Blue Bloods characters in a new direction creatively. And to cement this, they have recast them.
It turns out that Reagan's son, Sean Reagan, will be getting a bit of a facelift. Andrew Terraciano played the character during all 14 seasons of Blue Bloods, but Mika Amonsen will step into his shoes for his role in Boston Blue.
Although Sean Reagan didn't appear in every episode of Blue Bloods, he'll have a much bigger presence here as a primary protagonist alongside his father.
In Boston Blue, we will follow the father and son as they move down to Boston. According to the outlet, this move will be explained in the show itself. Their departure to Boston has been a criticism of fans, so hopefully the explanation will be enough to satisfy their ire.
Sean Reagan To Finally Become An Officer
Recasting Sean Reagan can also be seen as a symbolic reflection of the character's new projection. Throughout Blue Bloods, Sean Reagan considered career prospects outside of policing. This issue was never resolved at the series finale.
But Boston Blue will see him becoming a police officer, so he clearly made up his mind.
Sean Reagan will be following in the family's footsteps as he becomes a Boston PD patrolman. We don't know what prompted him to finally pick up the badge and move to Boston, but all should be revealed in the spin-off.
It's clear the writers really want to develop Sean further after his spotty appearances in the main show. So with a new face to match, we have a much more compelling character on our hands.
He is also only the second Reagan to have been confirmed in the wider Blue Bloods universe. Others will likely have guest appearances, and some may return as main or regular characters.
