Carrie Underwood Blows Past Inauguration Controversy With Latest Comment

Carrie Underwood is looking to move past her performance at the Donald Trump Inauguration by the looks at it. Underwood garnered backlash from some of her fans for singing at the event. Likewise, she also faced technical difficulties during the event itself.

Finally, speaking out publicly for the first time since the Inauguration performance, Underwood chose to completely ignore it. I mean it does make sense from an optics point of view. There's no reason to dredge up the event. It's probably best to just keep moving forward.

Instead, she promoted an up coming concert. She wrote, "TOMORROW! Check out the #REFLECTION concert special on @hulu and #HuluOnDisneyPlus! #CUinVegas [gem emoji]." She set the post to her 2018 song "Drinking Alone."

Carrie Underwood Moves Forward

Underwood has been on the defensive for days after announcing she was going to perform at the event. The singer's dealt with a lot of heat since wading into the political circus that is the United States.

"I love our country and am honored to have been asked to sing at the Inauguration and to be a small part of this historic event," Underwood said in a statement to USA TODAY. "I am humbled to answer the call at a time when we must all come together in the spirit of unity and looking to the future."

Underwood's decision to perform comes as a bit of surprise to some. In a 2019 interview with The Guardian, Underwood said that she tried to avoid getting into politics. She said that ultimately no one wins.

"I feel like more people try to pin me places politically," she said. "I try to stay far out of politics if possible, at least in public, because nobody wins. It's crazy. Everybody tries to sum everything up and put a bow on it, like it's black and white. And it's not like that."

However, time seems to have changed that sensibility. Underwood was also a bit disappointed by the technical limitations of the Inauguration. I imagine that also plays a role in just wanting to put it all behind her and focus on what she has coming up this year.
