Carrie Underwood’s Streaming Numbers Go Down After Controversial Inauguration Performance

Carrie Underwood probably never anticipated the scathing backlash she got (and is still getting) from singing at President Trump's January 20 inauguration. Many fans reacted negatively to her decision to perform at the historic ceremony ushering in Trump's second term. They interpreted Underwood's participation as proof that she is a Trump supporter. That did not sit too well with everyone.

Then there were the glitches she encountered as she attempted to sing "American The Beautiful." The sound system sputtered. Underwood ended up doing the song with no musical accompaniment at all. The American Idol winner from 2005 just had a mic in her hand; she navigated the less-than-ideal circumstances with steely aplomb. Underwood, 41, also had no stage or platform to stand upon, so she was literally shoulder-to shoulder on the same physical level as the other guests. That is not a typical set-up, especially for a singer of her caliber. Now, to add insult to injury, per Newsweek, Underwood's streaming numbers have dipped in the past few days. Will the pushback stop coming for Carrie Underwood?

Carrie Underwood's Streaming Numbers Evidently Took A Hit

Per the outlet, "According to data analytics company Luminate, per Billboard, Underwood's catalog racked up 1.46 million on-demand streams in the U.S. on Monday, the day of the inauguration. That number is nearly 6 percent lower than the Monday before (January 13)."

However, not all the news was gloomy for the accomplished vocalist from Muskogee, Oklahoma. Underwood's digital sales picked up "'a couple hundred extra daily downloads' on Monday, Billboard noted of Luminate's report — though she still received less than 1,000 downloads that day," Newsweek reported.

Rapper Nelly, who took at the stage at the Liberty Ball on Inauguration Night, reportedly fared comparably to Underwood. He had lower streaming numbers on January 20 compared with numbers from a week earlier. and slightly higher digital downloads on Inauguration Day.

Is She Now Sorry For Agreeing To Perform At President Trump's Inauguration?

According to the U.S. Sun, a source shared that "Her keeping quiet [after the event] is an indicator things did not go well for her, not how she wanted." The source added, "Reports of her having a 'hissy fit' isn't true though, she isn't a toddler but she was and is frustrated."
