Tim McGraw Divulged The Origin Of His Band's Odd Name On TV With Larry King

In 2002, McGraw was a guest on Larry King Live on CNN. King asked him about the name of his band. McGraw replied, "Came from an old Conway Twitty song 'Between Blue [Eyes] & Jeans.' It was named by Randy Davis who was my roommate when I first moved to Nashville. And he is also the original drummer of the 'Dance Hall Doctors.' And he kind of laid the name on us one night when we were trying to find [a] name."

Tim McGraw and the Dancehall Doctors was also the name of his album released in 2002. That was the first time the band was on one of his LPs.

The lyric from that 1985 Conway Twitty song goes like this. "And tonight some dance hall doctor / Might break the chains that locked her / To that lonesome old feeling / Between her blue eyes and jeans."

He Has Faced Some Health Issues Lately

McGraw has been dealing with some health problems recently. In May, per Country Living via Tracy Lawrence's Road House podcast, he shared, "To have almost a year of just sitting there (doing nothing), and I can tell you that after double knee replacements and three back surgeries and now a torn rotator cuff and a ruptured disc, there were times this year that I thought this might be it."

He added, "This might be time to hang it up... It's gonna come to a point to where I'm either gonna have to decide to change the way I do a live show to continue to do it, or just not do it anymore."
