Country Hitmaker's Health Woes Almost Made Him Ditch His Career: "I Was Seriously...Figuring Out How To Walk Away"

Country superstar Tim McGraw is revealing that he almost shut down his career because of multiple health issues. Per foxnews.com, the country music hitmaker said this about his physical status. He made the comments on October 25 during a concert in Highland, California. "I've had four back surgeries and double knee replacements, just in the last couple of years." He acknowledged that prior to back surgery this year, "Things were getting really bad," to the extent that McGraw became depressed about the future.

McGraw Mentioned Doctors in the Audience Who Helped Him and Wife Faith Hill

He graciously (and figuratively) tipped his hat to doctors in the audience who helped him and his wife, Faith Hill. McGraw said, "The doctor who did my double knee replacement is here tonight. Dr. Chen, where you at? There he is!"

"And my wife has been going through quite a bit of surgeries - she's had five neck surgeries, and she's had a couple of hand surgeries. Her hand surgeon, Dr. Rose, is here tonight."

He Told Everyone Why He Shared These Health Disclosures

Per the outlet, McGraw added, "So, part one of that story. The reason I wanted to tell that part is because the doctors are here. The second part of that story, is, after going through all of that for a couple of years and getting depressed over it and all of those things — stuff not going right."

He continued speaking candidly to the throng. "And this spring, before I had my final back surgery, things were getting really bad, so I was seriously contemplating and figuring out how to walk away. I didn't want to, but I didn't think it was going to get better. But it's gotten better. So, during that process, I had this idea for this song that sort of dealt with facing age and facing all that stuff that comes along with it."

The song was "King Rodeo."

McGraw's a Sturdy Survivor

According to foxnews.com via Deadline, the singer was scheduled to produce and act in a rodeo series on Netflix earlier in 2025. Back surgery derailed McGraw's intentions, however. He has also successfully battled alcohol addiction as well. He's been sober for 17 years.

McGraw says that Hill was instrumental in being right there for him during that tough time. They have been married for 29 years and have three daughters. Both of these beloved and highly accomplished singers are 58 years old.
