Crowd Helps Grieving Country Star Power Through Heartbreaking Performance for Late Brother

Pat Green mentioned his brother at a recent performance on Friday and thanked those who donated and contributed to his benefit concert.

On July 18, Grammy-nominated country artist Pat Green performed for the first time since livestreaming a concert for those victims affected by the flooding in Texas. Green has suffered a personal loss from the floods and got pretty real at the Golden Nugget Hotel and Casino on Friday. The singer was still clearly feeling the loss of his brother, sister-in-law, and two nephews, and had to have a little help from the audience to finish his set that night.

Before playing "Wave On Wave", his 2003 hit, he paused for a second to make the song a tribute to his brother, John Burgess, and his family, who were swept away by the floods while on vacation in their RV. "I'm gonna do this song for my brother John, my sister-in-law Julia, my two nephews, and for all the other people who...you know."

In the middle of the performance, Green paused again to say, "Be kind to one another, love one another, be gentle. Do things with purpose. Let the people around you know exactly what you think about them as often as you can." He then had the audience help him by singing along to the Top 10 hit.

Over $1 Million Raised for Those Affected: And More To Come

Earlier that night, Pat Green confirmed to the audience that his livestream, which he participated in alongside other country performers, had raised over $1 million for victims of the Texas flooding. In just two hours, he noted, the performers had already reached their goal, but kept on playing regardless.

Other celebrities have also chosen to host their own fundraisers in support of those affected. On July 27, George Strait plans to host a sold-out donor dinner and concert in Boerne, Texas, with all proceeds going to the Del Mar Texas Flood Relief Fund.

On August 17, a lineup of country artists will also gather at the Moody Center in Austin to perform and raise money for "Ban Together Texas." This is meant to be a benefit concert featuring performances by Texas natives. Some of the performers expected to be there are Miranda Lambert, Kelly Clarkson, and Parker McCollum, to name a few.

Although the floods have been a dark time for Texas families, it is amazing to see celebrities giving back to those in need. As the audience cheered during his set, Green added, "I hope you know that those cheers are not for us. They're for those people who donated their time and money. The Texas Rangers and everybody."
