'Days Of Our Lives' Actor Francisco San Martin Dies At 39

39-year-old actor Francisco San Martin, best known for his role in Days of Our Lives, has passed away. Los Angeles police discovered San Martin's body inside his home on Thursday, January 16.

Spanish Actor Francisco San Martin Dies By Suicide

The actor played Dario Hernandez in the 60-season soap opera, as well as Fabian Regalo del Cielo in Jane the Virgin. According to the LA County Coroner's office, San Martin's cause of death was "ligature hanging," which denotes a suicide.

In Days of Our Lives, San Martin portrayed his character between 2010 and 2011 before they recast him in 2016. He also showed up in the movie Behind the Candelabra in 2013. Jordi Vilasuso filled in his role as Hernandez while San Martin starred in The Bold and the Beautiful in 2017 for 16 episodes.

He was also in a few short films, such as Hotter Up Close and Dot both in 2022. San Martin hasn't had any further acting credits since then. In the hit comedy-drama Jane the Virgin, San Martin played a telenovela star who has a fling with Jane, the main character on the show.

As Forbes reported, San Martin hailed from Spain and was born on the island of Mallorca. He was raised in Montana as he started acting in children's theatre productions.

During his teenage years, San Martin moved back to Spain with his family, taking modeling jobs and acting lessons. Before San Martin got big roles in America, he worked on some TV and film productions in Spain.

His death has come as a shock to those who knew him well. Michael Fairman, journalist and producer, wrote a heartbreaking message on X. "Very, very sad. I am a bit in shock, as I saw Francisco at my gym most every day."

Another tribute in mourning of San Martin's death came from Camila Banus who played his sister on Days of Our Lives. "Pepe, what can I say but I love you and rest in peace, my friend," she wrote on her Instagram Story. "Love you mucho mucho mucho. I wish I had told you more."
