It turns out that opposites do indeed attract, as Dolly Parton's husband of 58 years, Carl Dean, is not one for crowds or any kind of attention. Parton unveiled the curtain a little on their rather private relationship when she sat down with Bunnie XO on her Dumb Blonde podcast.

Near the tail-end of the podcast, Dolly Parton opens up about their relationship, by saying that he's a "homebody" and that it's "always worked well" for them. "He's a good guy, he's quiet and I'm loud."

"I think one of the things that's made [their relationship] last so long over the years is we love each other, we respect each other, but we have a lot of fun."

It's adorable hearing Parton speak so highly of her husband. She soon shares the story where she made him step out of his comfort zone, however, which he regretted doing instantly.

Dolly Parton Recalls First And Last Event Her Husband Attended

A year after they married in 1966, Dolly Parton won her first first Song of the Year trophy. She wished to attend the BMI Awards with her husband.

"I rented him in a tux and begged him to go," she recalled. "And he did, and oh, he was so uncomfortable the whole night."

Apparently, the moment they got home, Carl Dean was eager to get out of his suit. "As soon as he hit the door, he started pulling off stuff."

"He said, 'look now, I want you to do everything you want to do and I wish you the best, but don't ever ask me to go to another one of these d--n things, because I'm not doing it.' And he never did."

So Parton's husband would never go to another event again. Some people simply find the spotlight and crowds too much, or simply don't like the idea of having so much attention. It's ironic that he would marry one of the most famous singers ever, but they make it work.

"I respected that," Parton said of her husband's unwillingness to attend more events. "I didn't know he was gonna be that uneasy."

It turns out that her husband isn't even keen to go to big dinners. On special occasions, they'll celebrate in a manner special to them in the comfort of their own home.
