Country Music Legend George Strait Announced as a 2025 Kennedy Center Honoree

George Strait, the legendary country music singer known as the King of Country Music, will be a 2025 Kennedy Center Honoree. It was announced today by President Donald Trump, per CBS News. Artists who were also announced by the president to receive this award are Rocky and Rambo actor Sylvester Stallone, "I Will Survive" singer Gloria Gaynor, Phantom of the Opera star Michael Crawford, and rock band KISS. A gala televised ceremony will be held at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C., at the end of the year for all the distinguished recipients.

Per the Center's web site, "For over four decades, the Kennedy Center Honors has celebrated artists whose work has shaped our cultural landscape. From the concert hall to the Broadway stage, and from the silver screen to global stages, the Honors recognize lifetime achievement...."

Previous honorees include the Eagles, The Godfather actor Al Pacino, former Beatle Paul McCartney, singer Linda Ronstadt, Places in the Heart actress Sally Field, and singer/actress Cher.

The Famed Singer's Milestones in the Genre Are Remarkable

Per the outlet, President Trump said this of Strait at the announcement ceremony today. "He's beloved by hundreds of millions of people all over the world." In his unparalleled multi-decade career, Strait has "60 No. 1 country singles, more than any other artist in any genre, has sold 120 million records and produced 33 platinum albums...."

At the age of 73, the Poteet, Texas, native has won a host of awards. He has accolades from the ACM, CMA, Billboard, CMT, and a Grammy. He has favored the traditional country sound that keeps fans coming back for more year after year. Strait's gentlemanly demeanor and natural charm have always enchanted audiences of all ages.

Per the Austin American-Statesman, "For Texans, the inclusion of George Strait is a point of immense pride.
