CNN Star Exits Network Amid Ratings Woes

Gloria Borger is the latest on-air presence to make an exit from CNN, per dailymail.co.uk. With rumors swirling about potential layoffs to come amid concerns about the network's allegedly plunging ratings, Borger's departure is not a total shock. Chris Wallace, 77, is already gone from CNN after higher-ups reportedly "cut ties" with him. Alisyn Camerota, 58, recently announced her leave-taking following a 10-year stint at CNN. Who's next out the door?

Right now, it's a guessing game. Per the outlet, "CNN's highest-paid stars include Anderson [Cooper]  - who rakes in $ 20 million a year - Erin Burnett, who makes $ 6 million, and rising star Kaitlan Collins, who collects $ 3 million." There have also been hints that prominent personalities like Jake Tapper and Wolf Blitzer got a thumbs-down about pay raises.

Gloria Borger Had Not Been Seen Lately On CNN

She 'Cut Back Her Responsibilities' Recently And Viewers Took Note

Borger, 72, an experienced political analyst and commentator who previously worked for Newsweek and U.S. News & World Report, has not been seen much at CNN in recent weeks, if at all. Her salary is not known, per the outlet. It's possible that Borger jumped ship before the top brass gave her her walking papers in what might be a looming wave of layoffs.

What the outlet calls "an explosive new report from Puck" supposedly makes reference to widespread potential job cuts at CNN just to keep the network afloat. That possibility is enough to make anyone antsy about their own role's security.

There Has Been Turmoil At The Upper Level Of CNN

Changes At The Top Preceded Worrisome Ratings

Per the outlet, "The network...has seen its rating fall more than 20 percent since the ouster of already-languishing leader Chris Licht this past August, whose tenure saw CNN descend from the most-watched cable news network to one of the least." Ouch!

By contrast, the more conservative-oriented Fox News seems to be humming right along. Their top on-air talent, such as Sean Hannity, Laura Ingraham, Greg Gutfeld, and Jesse Watters are bringing in the big numbers. They "are averaging 2.8 million" viewers in the coveted prime-time spots, as opposed to just 800,000 for CNN.

Can they save this ship? Stay tuned!
