Jake Worthington’s Viral Hit ”It Ain’t the Whiskey” Is Truer to Reality Than Some Might Think

Does this technically make Jake Worthington an outlaw artist? His deservedly viral hit "It Ain't The Whiskey" was based on a real encounter the singer had with the law.

Jake Worthington recently visited Live in the Vineyard Goes Country, where he performed his hit song "It Ain't The Whiskey." This banger hit our weekly ranking on the week of release, so you know it's good.

He prefaced his performance with a bit of the song's history, where he unveiled that his own run-in with the cops was pulled into the songwriting. Although it wasn't the catalyst for the songwriting, it certainly played a part.

For those that need a refresher, "It Ain't The Whiskey" follows the story of someone who got pulled over for erratic driving. It wasn't any alcohol that

"The research department, as they say, sometimes it be that way," he said, per Country Now who attended the event.

"A funny thing was around the time I wrote this, my wife came with me to go play a show in Texas," he explained. "And we got pulled over speeding somewhere."

Of course, speeding isn't cool, but you don't need me to tell you that.

"Anywho, long story short, that first year of being married to Sophia, we found ourselves in the back of a cop car."

Jake Worthington Is Singing From Experience — Sorta

Although getting done for speeding caused some problems for Jake Worthington, a silver lining presented itself a little down the line.

"It just created all kinds of a fiasco for us. But, months later, Jeff, Roger, and Will had called me up, and we talked about it." The song was written alongside Jeff Hyde, Roger Springer, and Will Banister.

"They had a pretty great idea, and I lived a little bit of it. So, that's about it. It's just a fun-loving song."

As much as I was hoping Jake Worthington got pulled over thanks to his infatuation with his wife, it's still a fun story. Almost as fun as the song, which I've been listening to again while writing this. So if my writing comes across as dodgy, it ain't the whiskey, it's the music.
