On The Joe Rogan Experience recently, Jelly Roll talked a bit about his weight-loss journey and some of the most surprising side effects that come with losing nearly 300 pounds.

Jelly Roll has often mentioned that he hasn't been this low a weight since middle school. For most of his life, the country singer has been on the heavier side, and now that he's not anymore, he's rediscovering how to live his life in many ways. One of these ways is being able to see colors more clearly than he has in nearly 20 years.
The "Need A Favor" singer explained, "Joe, I was colorblind. I couldn't see, I see shades of colors. General concepts. But like, hunter green, emerald green ... green is green to me, I never realized there was nuances and prettiness." He then elaborated on how he found out this little miracle.
"This is a true story. My wife will tell you, she laughs about it now. Nine months into no sugar and I forgot what it was, but it was a plant in our house. I come outside and I grab my wife, and I go, 'Dude how long have we had that pretty purple tulip there?'"
"I was like, 'That is the prettiest purple plant that I've ever seen.' She was like, 'You've walked by that plant for two years, what are you talking about?' I was like, 'There's no way we have had a plant there that is that pretty for two years.'"
Before, Jelly had always been able to see colors, but just not distinct shades. Now, he's getting to see the world in a whole different way, literally.
How 10,000 Steps Changed Everything for Jelly Roll
Even though Jelly Roll began his weight-loss journey in 2022, this year has been particularly transformative for him. The singer recently revealed, however, that the moment he chose to embark on this ambitious task wasn't a particularly joyful one, but rather a necessary step if he wanted to stay alive.
He told Joe Rogan his initial thought process behind losing the weight. He first started seriously considering weight loss around his 40th birthday. "I thought about it around my birthday 'cause I knew my next [birthday] was 40, and I was like ... I don't think I've ever met a 500-pound 40-year-old," he shared.
It was shortly after this that he decided to start walking 10,000 steps a day, a goal that got him particularly determined. He felt he owed it to his daughter and his wife, Bunnie, and, most importantly, to himself. "In my mind, I was like, 'No. I'm going outside,'" he recalled. "I'm done lying to y'all and I'm done lying to me. I told y'all I'm gonna do this walk and I'm gonna do this walk."
Since then, he's been on a mission to lose the weight, for him, but also for those paying attention to his story. "I want to help people, dude. I never thought I'd lose this weight," he told Rogan.
