"When I first started music, they told me I didn't have a chance,"
Jelly Roll posted on Facebook in 2020. "They said I was too overweight to connect with people." He added, "They said I was too fat and too trashy. Just wanted to thank you all for helping me [prove] them all wrong." Jelly Roll then went on to share how many millions of people had listened to his music."
However, Jelly Roll's complicated past, which includes a stint in prison and drug addiction, has given him an incredible resolve. Rather than accepting the negative views of those around him, both within and outside the industry, he has sought to improve himself by enhancing his fitness and, consequently, his weight.
These Days, Jelly Roll Looks Unrecognizable
In August 2025, the megastar was invited to give a motivational speech to the Tennessee Titans NFL team. In a clip posted on X (formerly Twitter), Jelly Roll can be seen explaining his incredible weight loss, noting that he has lost north of 200 pounds.
"I can't get on the field. Close. I lost 200 pounds," Jelly Roll said in his speech. "I told coach I'm getting a contract by losing another 50."
