Jessie Murph Goes Country With a Cover of Miranda Lambert’s “Tin Man”—and Country Fans Want More

Jessie Murph did a cover of "Tin Man" before her show this weekend. Fans were surprised at how well she delivered Miranda Lambert's classic.

Jessie Murph is one of those artists that country music can't quite figure out. It shouldn't be that shocking that during her soundcheck this weekend, she chose a Miranda Lambert song to cover. The singer has often mentioned that country music was a big part of the culture she grew up in. However, when she was nominated for an ACM award, Murph said that she felt that other artists deserved it more.

"No, that was such a big surprise. I wouldn't look at me and be like, 'That's a country artist.' I don't know that I deserved to be in that category. I feel like there's other country artists that maybe deserved to have that spot."

The award, New Female Artist of the Year, ultimately went to Ella Langley. The singer learned she had won the prize by getting a shout-out from Miranda Lambert during a show. Lambert started her message to Langley by saying, "You are my friend first and foremost, a fellow dog rescue advocate, you are a co-writer, you are my soul sister in country music and partner in crime." She then announced, "You, my friend, have won the new female artist of the year."

As it turns out, Jessie Murph is also a big fan of Miranda Lambert's music. Before a recent show, the rap/pop singer did a cover of Lambert's "Tin Man" to prepare for her set. A fan snagged a video of Murph singing the song, which is a fan favorite of Miranda Lambert's catalog. People in the comments were blown away by her vocal delivery, despite what she's said in the past. Some even said they thought she should take another stab at country music.

"If she would sing real country she would have so much potential."

"And people say she can't sing."

"Wow she sounds just like Miranda there."

"I wish she would do more stuff like this than the trash she puts out. She has a beautiful voice."

Jessie Murph Is No Stranger to the Country Music Genre

Most people seemed to be supportive, even excited about Murph's cover, but that hasn't always been the case. It's not that surprising to learn that she might have some hesitance when it comes to the country genre. Jessie Murph's collaboration with Koe Wetzel, "High Road," was actually a No. 1 Country Billboard hit, but a lot of fans had mixed reactions. Many felt that it felt like a product of corporate radio, simply because Jessie Murph added her spin to it. This reaction was reminiscent of when she put out a single with Jelly Roll in 2023. Fans were far from enthusiastic about her feature, and Jessie Murph expressed that she was getting "a lot of hate."

In the past, people might not have been too thrilled about Murph's take on country, but if she ever decided to make the switch, it's not like it would be totally out of her ballpark. Maybe fans should be a little more supportive, because the Alabama native certainly has the pipes to do it, as she proved with her cover of "Tin Man" this weekend.
