Plenty of the people performing for Donald Trump have garnered backlash from fans for their decisions. Several of them have gone back on their word, choosing the publicity and money of the performance over their own morals. Even Snoop Dogg has betrayed his previous statement about the event to become one of the biggest performers.
But, with Nelly, there has also been some backlash from one of his previous musical partners over his inauguration performance. Kelly Rowland, the costar of "Dialemma," has blocked him from performing their song.
She says she is willing to get legal over the matter too. Nelly has many songs in his library to choose from, but "Dilemma" is one of the all-time greats. The smash hit sold over 7 million copies worldwide and was one of the first rap videos to hit over a billion views on YouTube. Blocking Nelly from performing "Dialemma" at the inauguration is going to be a real statement.
Nelly Playing The Inauguration Hurts Ashanti Too
According to an insider, Nelly isn't fussed about the fallout from his decision to play at the Inauguration. As they have stated "Nelly isn't afraid of the criticism he is receiving. He will earn more money off the back of the gig than he has from his record sales in recent years." But, it has already had a knock-on effect on his wife, Ashanti.
Even her fan site on Instagram, @Ashantinews, has shut itself down following the news. Speaking to their 110,000 followers they said "In light of recent news about Nelly and the decisions he has made... I can no longer run @AshantiNews or support The Haynes in the direction they are going. It's beyond disappointing."
Nelly has upset a lot of people by deciding to play at the inauguration. He will have to deal with the backlash, but, as stated, the paycheck will make it all better. However, seeing Snoop Dogg deciding to play it is surprising. He had been so vocal about his decision to stay far from it before. He even called out other black artists for even thinking about it.
I guess he had a change of heart.
