Lauren Alaina Reveals She Thought She Was Having Twins

Lauren Alaina is expecting her first child, a girl, later this year. But now, the American Idol alum reveals that she initially thought she was going to start out as a mother of two, instead of just one. When Alaina first got a blood test, after suspecting she was pregnant, it revealed extremely elevated human chorionic gonadotropin (HCG) levels, common when carrying twins.

"I think I carry the gene for twins," Alaina says on the Country Heat Weekly podcast (via Country Now). "And so I take this test, and where I thought that I would be at that point, because I was only three days late, would have been a certain number. And I was almost double that number when I got the test back. I'm talking to the doctor and I'm like, 'Am I having twins?'"

Numerous tests and ultrasounds since then have confirmed that Alaina is only carrying one baby, although she admits she is still just a bit skeptical.

"There's only one, allegedly. I'm just trusting other people at this point," Alaina quips. "I've had lots of scans and they say there's only one, but there was a moment where I thought I was having twins and I'm like I swear if there are two babies in there..."

Lauren Alaina's Pregnancy

Alaina's due date is March 29. The baby is a first for her and her husband, Cam Arnold, who got married in 2024. Alaina credits her late father with the couple adding to their family earlier than they intended. Alaina's father, J.J. Suddeth, passed away last July.

"I do think that my dad passed away and got a stair up in heaven, and was like, 'Hey, we got to work something out down there to send the family something good,'" Alaina tells People. "And it has been such an unexpected blessing. We obviously still talk about and are dealing with the grief of my dad, but this baby has healed a lot of that for us ... like it's a little piece of my dad that will live on."

Alaina is currently opening up for Rascal Flatts on their Life Is A Highway Tour. Her last scheduled performance is on March 26 at the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville, a show with Trisha Yearwood and other artists, including Terri Clark, Sheryl Crow, Amy Grant, Keith Urban, and Lainey Wilson, and more.
