Even if you do not follow the world of high-stakes skiing. you know that champion skier Lindsey Vonn is a fierce competitor. She proved that at the 2026 Winter Olympics in Italy recently. After sustaining a torn ACL on February 8, Vonn simply refused to give up. She got right back on the slopes. Unfortunately, she was not destined to medal.
In fact, Vonn got yet another injury, this time one that seems even more significant. The 41-year-old fractured her tibia and has undergone multiple surgeries with more reportedly to come. Now Vonn says she is mending but still unable to stand yet.
Vonn Posted an Update of Her Condition on X
The skier wrote on social media on February 16, "Haven't stood on my feet in over a week... been in a hospital bed immobile since my race. And although I'm not yet able to stand, being back on home soil feels amazing. Huge thank you to everyone in Italy for taking good care of me"
Vonn followed the message with emojis of praying hands, a red heart, and the American flag. She included the hashtags #imhome #BeLv
Not Everyone Was Supportive However
Some people feel that Vonn's decision to ski again with a serious ACL injury was foolhardy and excessively risky. They feel she should have listened to her body and sat that one out to be safe. Others are concerned, are rooting her on, and have sent her sincere well-wishes for a quick recovery.
"And I'm sure they thank you for being a huge burden on their medical services when you could've taken care of yourself ahead of time."
"I hope you'll pay the medical bill! Going to such an important event injured will inevitably end in disappointment for both you and the other person's place in the team."
"You don't need to hear you had no business being in the race at your age. You have probably heard that til you want to puke. Heal well Lindsey. Listen to your body. It will tell you when you are fully healed. You are in my prayers for a speedy and full recovery! Kia kaha!"
"We are proud of you Lindsey."
"Sorry for the grueling rehab regimen you are about to embark on. Wish you nothing but great success going forward."
Vonn's Dad Insists That Her Skiing Career Is Over
Her father, Alan Kildow, reportedly told the Associated Press that "She's 41 years old and this is the end of her career. There will be no more ski races for Lindsey Vonn, as long as I have anything to say about it." Whether Vonn agrees to hang up her skis for good remains to be seen.
