Sometimes, it seems like people just say things to get a rise out of others. It doesn't even seem like it's thought all the way through. That seems to be the case for former Fox News and NBC personality Megyn Kelly, who was yelling on the internet about Netflix revamping Little House on the Prairie. Now, one of the show's original stars Melissa Gilbert is taking exception to her comments.

Recently, Kelly posted her potential discontent with how Little House on the Prairie will be developed by Netflix. "Netflix, if you woke-ify 'Little House on the Prairie' I will make it my singular mission to absolutely ruin your project," she tweets.
This strikes me as a bunch of nonsense for a couple of reasons. For starters, has she even seen the original show? One of the big selling points was how tactful they would tackle important topics. Additionally, how in the world does Megyn Kelly plan on 'ruining' the project? It's hilariously dramatic that she's got enough swing to ruin Netflix projects. Melissa Gilbert feels similarly.
Melissa Gilbert Claps Back at Megyn Kelly's Twitter Post
Gilbert responds on Threads, Instagram's answer to Twitter. There, she emphasizes that the personality should seriously consider watching the show again if that's the conclusion she reached. "Apparently Megyn tweeted (I'm not on that platform) asking that Netflix not 'woke-Ify' their 'Little House' remake," Melissa writes. "Ummm...watch the original again. TV doesn't get too much more 'woke' than we did. We tackled: racism, addiction, nativism, antisemitism, misogyny, rape, spousal abuse and every other 'woke' topic you can think of. Thank you very much."
Melissa Gilbert has one hell of a point. Important messages have always been in the fabric of music, film, and television. The real issue lies in bad writing. Occasionally, it can be incredibly on the nose or just messy and misguided. It's vital to tell meaningful stories in a way that isn't finger wagging at you. Hopefully, the new Little House on the Prairie can pull it off.
