Liv Tyler Recalls Learning That Steven Tyler Was Her Father During His Concert
Liv revealed the moment her mother, Bebe Buell, told her who her real father was, and it was during an Aerosmith concert. "We sat on a bench at this outdoor amphitheater and she told me the whole story in the most sincere, beautiful way," said Liv to hosts Kate and Oliver Hudson. "I just was there with it and then we went backstage after the show."
She recalled feeling stunned after learning this life-changing news. "The first wave was shock," Liv continued. "After that concert, we went home and my mom had a chaise lounge in front of a window. I remember sitting there for what felt like three days, but it was probably three hours, and coming to this conclusion of 'Whoa, I have two dads and all this love.'"
At the time, Liv believed her father was Todd Rundgren, who was also a musician. Despite learning the truth, Liv had a father-daughter relationship with both Todd and Steven. But not only was this news to Liv, it was news to Todd, who had signed Liv's birth certificate.
Liv then got candid about how this news affected Todd. "It's probably still very hard and painful and I don't speak to him enough," said Liv. "I love him. I have brothers from him and I had a whole family with them. He took care of me like he was [my] dad."
Steven Tyler's Daughter Reveals Why Aerosmith Singer Had Scarves On Mics

During the same podcast episode, Liv's 46-year-old younger sister, Mia Tyler, shared some dark news. Fans of Aerosmith probably already know about 77-year-old Steven's scarf accessories on his microphones while performing. The alleged reason behind the Aerosmith singer's accessorizing habits is that he used them to hide things.
"The story of why he has scarves on his microphone is because he liked to hide his pills and whatnot," said Mia. "So he could do them live on stage." The vocalist for I Don't Want to Miss a Thing had a history of substance use. Mia even described him as being "extremely wild" during her childhood.
Other than scarves, Mia claimed that her father would hide things like pills using other methods. "He would have little pockets sewn so he could be on stage and just take whatever it was that he was [ingesting]," Mia explained.
Steven's struggle with sobriety has been public for many years. Aerosmith announced in May 2022 that Steven was visiting a treatment center after he relapsed. The singer had been sober for 10 years prior to this relapse.
