Lukas Nelson has a really great career going right now. He released a successful solo album called American Romance. It seems clear that he is much more than just the very talented son of country music legend Willie Nelson. There have been other significant changes in his professional life lately. Nelson went off on his own after being with his band, Promise of the Real, for years.

Per Whiskey Riff, "Lukas Nelson and his longtime Promise of the Real announced their indefinite hiatus in June of last year, after 15 years as a band." They had plenty of success together. They were the backing band for iconic rocker Neil Young. They also were the band for Bradley Cooper's character in the film A Star Is Born. But Nelson chose to branch out and he talked about the reasons why.
Nelson Refreshed His Career by Going Solo
Per the outlet via Nashville Now, the county music podcast of Rolling Stone, Nelson, 36, described this change. He said, "You know, it had been a long time of hundreds of shows a year with the same guys, the same musicians, and I think growth growth is important. I felt that the band had become Neil Young's band. It started off as my band, and then when Neil heard us, we all loved Neil, and we went and became disciples and students of him."
He added, "And then he took that band, and we went off and had adventures with him. And I just wanted to keep playing my own songs and my own music...I wanted to focus on that completely." Nelson explained further, "...I wanted to be able to do my own thing and to put most of my focus on that building my own crowd and hopefully one that will be with me for a long time."
He Has Not Forgotten Who Helped Him Along the Way
Nelson posted this grateful tribute on X the day after the death of music icon Kris Kristofferson last year. "Kris helped me to believe in myself as a songwriter when I was a boy. Other than my father, he was my greatest inspiration. He embodied humility and kindness, and carried his grace into his words and music with unique eloquence."
There is also a sweet snap of Kristofferson holding Nelson when he was very little.
