It's interesting to learn how songs came to be - what inspired them, who wrote them, and how they evolved. Luke Combs, who co-wrote the hit song "Hurricane" with Taylor Phillips and Thomas Archer, decided that part of the tune did not make sense, according to the weather and science. Glad he is a stickler for accuracy! Nothing was lost by making this change. In fact, the song is even better because of it. We will explain. Keep reading!

'Hurricane' Came Together Bit By Bit
The Three Started To Collaborate On It
The tune was penned a decade ago, in December 2014. Per Songfacts via Billboard, "The genesis of the song started with a descending riff that Archer played on acoustic guitar. 'Luke said 'What was that?' and I played it again,'" Archer said. "'That's when he started flipping through his idea book and had 'Hurricane.'"
"Hurricane" got rolling because a pal of one of the guys writing the song wanted to avoid going to a certain bar after splitting up with his girlfriend. He feared he might run into her there. Good theme for a song about loving and losing.

Combs Explained What The Sticking Point Was
Archer, Combs, and Phillips made a key alteration in the lyrics. Per the outlet, "They also changed the hook from 'eye of a hurricane' to 'hit me like a hurricane,' which went better. Said Combs, "'Eye of a hurricane' doesn't make any sense because that's the calm part of the storm. It's kind of counter-productive to where we were going with the title. When I go back and listen to it, I'm like, 'What were we thinking when we wrote that?"
The Song Has Been A Real Blockbuster For Luke Combs
'Hurricane' Was Huge In Combs' Career
Per Biography, "...[T]he track eventually went to No. 1 on Billboard's Country Airplay chart in May 2017. Fans were eager for more and sent his debut album, This One's For You, to No. 1 on Billboard's Top Country Albums upon its release the following month."
For Luke Combs, there has been no looking back. He established himself among the young greats of country music and clearly intends to stay there.
