Stepping back into the limelight, Chesnutt has spoken out about his near-fatal battle with alcoholism as he announces his comeback tour. He recently spoke to American Songwriter to divulge into his recent past and talk about his tour.

Unfortunately, almost no details have been revealed about his upcoming Redemption Tour. He shared with the outlet that it'll span over 2025 and 2026, so it's likely still some many months away. So it is still pretty early doors.

This is more of a heads-up than an announcement. We don't have tour dates or any other information to go off other than that it's happening across this year and next.

When relaying their conversation about his tour, the outlet wrote, "With his heart, mind, and body healthy, Chesnutt is gearing up for his 2025-2026 Redemption Tour- more dedicated to sobriety than ever and equally determined to deliver the most compelling shows of his career."

So we know that Chesnutt wants to make his next tour his best yet, which is pretty exciting.

Mark Chesnutt's Redemption Tour Comes After Deadly Duel With Drinking

Chesnutt fought with alcoholism in a deadly duel indeed. Ultimately, it was a lethal fight for his alcoholism rather than himself. Although he came very close to death's door.

His alcoholism (and his back problems) caused Chesnutt to take a couple of emergency trips to the hospital. In 2021, his fractured back caused him to fall, causing him to have immediate surgery. His accident, combined with the pandemic, exacerbated his drinking problem.

"I drank all day, every day," he reflected. "I'd get up in the middle of the night and drink. I'd never stop."

"Back in those days, it was normal for everybody to drink all the time," he said. "I just took it to the extreme, and it about killed me," he said.

And that eventually caused him to have his second emergency hospital trip. In June 2024, he was back in the hospital. "I knew I was dying," he said.

He had four blood transfusions and was on the edge of a cardiac arrest. If his wife hadn't called the ambulance when he did, he may not have survived at all.

"I had to quit drinking or die," and so quit drinking he did. And now he's feeling much better about being sober and performing, he wants to hit the stage where he belongs.

Keep posted, as I'm sure Chesnutt will post more details about his upcoming Redemption Tour before long.
