Miranda Lambert Expresses Regret In Painfully Honest New Song, 'Run'

Miranda Lambert is baring her soul in a newly-released song, "Run." The song seems a direct response the end of her marriage to Blake Shelton in 2015. Understandably refusing to talk about it at the time, ten years later, Lambert addresses her part in the break, at least in the lyrics on "Run." The song, written solely by Lambert, is from her latest Postcards From Texas album.

"I wrote this song 'Run' during 'The Weight of These Wings' era," Lambert shares on TikTok. "At the same time as songs like 'Tin Man' and 'Vice.' But wasn't ready to release it till now."

"Run" says in part, "I'm tryin' to survive in / This state of defeat / Is it you or I that really lost me / I'm lookin' for someone / I wasn't with you / We held on for dear life, babe / But both of us knew I was gonna run." When Lambert released the video for "Run," she revealed why she waited so long to share the vulnerable song with the world.

"I wasn't ever ready to perform it until now," Lambert says on Today's Country Radio With Kelleigh Bannen. "That's what songs are for. And you may not be ready at that one time to sing about something really raw... but then it can come back around." Lambert adds that the song is "an admission of human error too...It's an apology, but it's also a resolve."

Miranda Lambert's Happy Marriage to Brendan McLoughlin

Lambert's relationship with Shelton didn't work, but they both did find true love. Shelton is now married to Gwen Stefani, and Lambert just celebrated her sixth wedding anniversary with Brendan McLoughlin.

"It's nice to have a partner in that, someone by your side that supports you, loves you and believes in you," Lambert tells People. "He loves me for me. It's a really cool thing to have in my life, at this point in my life."

Lambert and McLoughlin aren't just married -- they are also songwriting partners. He and Lambert co-wrote "Dammit Randy" on Postcards From Texas, along with Lambert's frequent collaborator, Jon Randall.

McLoughlin was a police officer in New York City when he and Lambert met. McLoughlin quickly relocated to Nashville, where he has transformed into a much different person than he was living in the Big Apple.

"He is very patient and he is very chill," Lambert tells Taste of Country. "He wasn't as chill back then, because he was fresh out of New York City. Like, they just roll. I mean they're hardcore."
