After a record-breaking second season, Paramount+ has officially renewed its original series, Landman, for Season 3. The series follows Tommy Norris (played by Billy Bob Thornton) as he navigates the complexities of the oil business. The show also stars Demi Moore, Michelle Randolph, and Ali Larter, all of whom returned for season two.

It hasn't even been a month since the second season of the series came out, and fans already want more. Within its first two days on Paramount+, the new season had already racked up 9.2 million views. This alone earned the show the title of most-watched premiere for any original series on Paramount, and increased its viewership by 262%.
Paramount+ issued a press release on Friday announcing the show's renewal. Few details are known so far, but it is expected that filming will take place sometime next year.
What Is 'Landman' Even About?
Taylor Sheridan's Landman is set in West Texas and explores the relationships between billionaire executives and hardworking middle-class men, like Billy Bob Thornton's character. The show drew heavy inspiration from Boomtown, a podcast released in 2019. The podcast's host, Christian Wallace, works as a co-creator and executive producer on the series. Wallace relates to Thornton's character, as he himself spent years working in the same business.
"Moments [on the show] are straight out of my life and incorporate things that I had seen or reported when I was working in West Texas," he explained in an interview with Backstage. "Like the bikini-clad baristas. I've had multiple people be like, 'That's not real. Why would y'all put that in the show?' I'm like, 'That's absolutely real. It's part of the culture of the boomtown.'"
He explained how he feels the show is relatable in a universal way, even though the plot is unique. Speaking on Landman's success, he shared, "I do think it's kind of a testament to how a very personal truth and a very personal experience can be really a universal truth. I think by telling a story that was so personal to me about a place that I'm from and grew up, it resonates with people."
Based on numbers from a highly successful second season, it seems that Wallace would be correct.
