Cloudwards has crunched the numbers and conducted an exhaustive study on the top 100 largest U.S. cities to route out the most romantic place for a proposal. Considering emotive and practical measures, the top cities will have photogenic and beautiful locales and scenery and will have lots of romantic stores and activities available.

When crunching the scores, Cloudwards identified these as the top 20 cities:

  1. New York City, New York
  2. Jersey City, New Jersey
  3. Los Angeles, California
  4. San Diego, California
  5. Las Vegas, Nevada
  6. Chicago, Illinois
  7. Miami, Florida
  8. Santa Ana, California
  9. Anaheim, California
  10. San Francisco, California
  11. Orlando, Florida
  12. Irvine, California
  13. Long Beach, California
  14. Dallas, Texas
  15. Honolulu, Hawai'i
  16. Houston, Texas
  17. Scottsdale, Arizona
  18. Atlanta, Georgia
  19. Norfolk, Virginia
  20. New Orleans, Louisiana

You may have noticed that California is riddled with romantic hotspots, making the state the most desirable state for your proposal. So if you're around in California, you can't really go wrong.

Here's a handy map, too.

The Best Cities For More Than Just Looks

The cities weren't just ranked based on how often they appear on social media or how pretty the sights are. Cloudwards also considered how many romantic hotels, restaurants, gift stores, and more are available per 100K people.

So the higher the ranking, the more ways there are to celebrate the occasion.

Funnily enough, the top spot, New York City, didn't actually score too well in the "Shopping for Proposals Special Moments" department, but scored second place in "Romantic Experiences & Ambience" and first place in "Photogenic Proposal Spots," so it gets a pass.

Just make sure to plan ahead when proposing at statistically the most romantic city.

Don't lose sight of what makes a proposal really important. Yourself. If you've found the one, then you won't need a flashy proposal. Just make it sweet, sincere, and meaningful.

Of course, proposing at the right time and the right place are very important factors. Just because New York City is ranked the most romantic city, you don't have a license to get on one knee in the subway. Never let anything more than the soles of your shoes touch the ground of the NYC subway. Ever.
