Morgan Wallen is a hot topic heading into tonight's CMA Awards. He's made no secret of his feelings toward award shows and has been known to skip them. However, his absence from the 2021 CMAs wasn't by choice, as he was banned from attending.

Despite his absence, CMA organizers still allowed his song, "Dangerous," to be nominated for Album of the Year. Wallen's ban was due to being embroiled in a racial slur scandal, where he was filmed using slur outside of his Nashville home.
"I'm embarrassed and sorry. I used an unacceptable and inappropriate racial slur that I wish I could take back," Wallen said in a statement given to ET at the time. "There are no excuses to use this type of language, ever. I want to sincerely apologize for using the word. I promise to do better."
The ban from the CMAs Awards wasn't the only fallout Wallen experienced. He was also dropped by WME, while the CMT removed his videos.
Wallen has since managed to turn his career around. His "I'm The Problem" album has been a worldwide success, and he's a true global country music superstar. That's why he's been nominated for three awards at this year's CMAs.
What Awards Is Morgan Wallen up For?
For the second straight year, Wallen is in the running for Entertainer of the Year, an award he scooped in 2024. It's the CMAs' most prestigious award and certainly not something you would ignore if nominated. However, Wallen has even more reason to attend this year's event, as he's also in the running for Album of the Year and Male Vocalist of the Year.
Morgan Wallen's Potential Attendance Is a Hot Topic
With three nominations in play, Wallen may put his personal feelings aside and make an appearance at the Bridgestone Arena in Nashville. Of course, given his previous ban, he could be forgiven for staying away and nominating someone else to accept any award on his behalf.
Whatever he decides to do, having his name floated in three categories is a huge achievement. Still, his presence at the CMAs would be huge for the event and would likely generate some additional press. Unfortunately, all we can do is wait and see how things play out. Because, right now, whether he attends or not is anybody's guess.
