How These Two Legends Passed Away
Reiner and his wife, Michele Singer Reiner, 68, were found deceased in their Brentwood, California, home. The cause was apparently homicide. Their son, Nick, 32, "was booked on suspicion of murder and is currently being held without bail," per CNN.
Geary reportedly died from "complications from an operation" a few days earlier, per People via TV Insider. His husband, Claudio Gama, shared this message in a statement. ""It was a shock for me and our families and our friends. For more than 30 years, Tony has been my friend, my companion, my husband."
Reiner's Role on the Famed Sitcom
Reiner is known for the many successful films he directed. They include classics like A Few Good Men, When Harry Met Sally, Sleepless in Seattle, and The Princess Bride. But he rose to prominence as an actor decades ago on the small screen.
He played Michael "Meathead" Stivic, the liberal, long-haired son-in-law of Carroll O'Connor's character, Archie Bunker. Bunker, a curmudgeon who proudly wore his exasperating prejudices on his sleeve, frequently faced off with Stivic. Their spirited wrangles were the stuff of TV history.
The Episode That Featured Reiner and Geary
The episode aired in 1971, per People. Geary played Roger, a pal of Stivic's. Bunker at first assumes Roger is gay. Then he discovers that a buddy of his own is actually gay.
Geary Went on to Soap Opera Fame
The actor played Luke Spencer on General Hospital beginning in 1978. Geary achieved huge popularity in the role. When he wed another character on the show portrayed by actress Genie Francis, that 1981 episode was seen by 30 million viewers. Per the outlet, it was "the most-watched episode in soap opera history." Geary exited the daytime drama ten years ago.
