Sheryl Crow Reveals Why She Turned Down Offer To Be A Coach On Season 1 Of 'The Voice'

Sheryl Crow is part of The Voice this season, working as a Mega Mentor along with LeAnn Rimes. But now, Crow reveals that she could have been part of history with the reality TV talent show. The 63-year-old was asked to be a coach on the inaugural season of The Voice in 2011. Crow is a mother to sons Wyatt, now 17 and Levi, who is 14 years old, which is why she turned down the gig.

"I had a newborn and did not want to move back to L.A.," Crow tells People. "Actually, that's not true. [Levi] was about two years old, and I didn't want to move back to L.A., and so I didn't do it. And I have not really entertained it since then because we have a busy life here and normalcy is really lovely."

Crow does not disclose which coach was chosen in place of her. The first season included Blake Shelton, Cee Lo Green, Christina Aguilera, and Adam Levine, with Levine returning for this current season.

Crow works with both Kelsea Ballerini and Michael Bublé on Season 27 of The Voice, while Rimes works with John Legend and Levine.

"I loved mentoring," Crow says. "It was a blast, and I absolutely adore Kelsea."

This Season of 'The Voice'

This is Ballerini's first season as a coach on The Voice. It is also Levine's first season since Season 16, which was his final season. And although they have actually become good friends, Ballerini says former coach Blake Shelton gave her tips on how to defeat Levine.

"I feel very strongly I'm going to have to really fight Adam Levine," Ballerini quips to People. "I know it's a big deal that he's coming back, but yeah — I feel like we're going to be frenemies. Just kidding. However, I've gotten some pep talks from Blake about how to take him down!"

Ballerini might be trying to take Levine down, but they have actually become good friends while competing together on The Voice.

"We got along famously instantly — like a nice, friendly, sweet version of when I met Blake," Ballerini says.

The Voice airs on Monday nights at 8:00 p.m. on NBC.
