Country fans, and music fans in general, will be very pleased to know that Sheryl Crow and LeAnn Rimes will be stepping into The Voice. But not as coaches, before anyone gets excited (or disappointed), but as "mega mentors."
Per PEOPLE, the hit singing show announced the news on Monday.
Unlike other competitions, The Voice doesn't just have coaches. There are a myriad of advisors who step in to help the contestants and, well, advise them. You've got your battle advisors and team advisors, but the mega mentors have much more responsibility.
In previous seasons, the mega advisors lent their expertise to every team and contestant. No wonder there are two of them for this role.
This season, Sheryl Crow will be the mega mentor for coaches Kelsea Ballerini and Michael Bublé, and LeAnn Rimes will be filling the role for John Legend and Adam Levine. More specifically, it looks like they'll be stepping in for their mega mentoring for the playoffs, which we already know will kick off on the 28th.
Crow And Rimes Have Been On The Show Before, Technically Speaking
Although this is the first time LeAnn Rimes and Sheryl Crow have been mega advisors on The Voice, they have been on the show before in different capacities. So this will not be their first rodeo.
Some The Voice veterans may recall that Sheryl Crow was the team advisor for Blake Shelton back in season 4. That's a long time ago now, and it appears she's had quite the promotion.
LeAnn Rimes, however, has been on The Voice before, just not on the U.S. leg of the franchise. The country singer has appeared on both the U.K. and Australian versions of The Voice, but not just as an advisor, as a judge.
That's right, Rimes has been a judge on both the U.K. and Australian counterparts of The Voice, so this mega mentor role is a bit of a demotion for her. Not that she's complaining, I'm sure.
Tune in to see these two country icons help out our judges in the latest season.
