Even at the ripe age of 52, Wilson is still getting out and living her best life. Her crazy lifestyle has never been a secret, with her songs presenting a window into her heart and soul. There was one comment, however, that made her really consider just how crazy her life has been.
Country Now's guest red carpet correspondent, Katie Austin, caught up with the "Redneck Woman" hitmaker on the red carpet at the ACM Awards a couple of months ago. There, Wilson spoke about her age and her life.
"I mean, I'm over 50 and I'm still out there working. I'm still relevant. I mean, life doesn't get much better than this over 50," she shared just after listing her busy year so far. Not only did Gretchen Wilson win The Masked Singer, but she has also been the tour manager on Taylor Sheridan and Blake Shelton's show The Road.
"I am one of those women that's not afraid to say my age. I'll be 52 in June and I have been my very best since I have become 50," she continued.
Austin asked Wilson if there's anything she'd tell her younger self, and she had an answer that was inspired by a fan's comment.
Gretchen Wilson Wished She Wasn't So "Rough" On Herself
"Don't live your songs," she said, exasperated. "You don't have to be that rough on yourself."
"Take it easy, get more sleep, drink less; lots of things I [would tell myself]."
"I've heard other people say, 'You and Big & Rich were the only artists that I know, even in the rock genre that literally live your songs. You're living your music. And that hit me and I was like, wow, I think we really do," she explained.
"We have to slow down a little bit. And luckily, we did and we're all grown up now. Everybody has kids that are growing up. It's different. I mean, we can still get crazy, don't get me wrong. We definitely still know how to party, but we doing it in a safer and better way now," she concluded.
