The Surprising Song That Has Impacted Luke Bryan's Career The Most

Luke Bryan has had plenty of hits. The country music superstar has, in fact, had 31 songs that have landed at the top of the charts. It's an almost unheard of feat in country music. But It's "Country Girl (Shake It For Me)" that Bryan says on Bobby Bones' Bobbycast has been the most impactful on his career. Bryan wrote the song with Dallas Davidson. The song, released in 2011, went eight times platinum, and is what helped launch Bryan into superstar status.

Bryan was inspired to write the song by playing a private show. He was blissfully unaware that it would ultimately change his entire career.

"I'll never forget, I played a private party one time," Bryan recalls to The Boot. "It was a pool party for some young kids who had some money. Their parents wanted Luke Bryan to surprise them, and the time I got done playing, they put on dance music and rap, and the pool party was just rocking. I was like, 'I've gotta try to write some music that maybe some kids like that will want to rock at their pool party or play at a honky tonk.'"

Luke Bryan's Summer Anthem, "One Margarita"

There's another song, one that wasn't as successful as "Country Girl (Shake It For Me)," although it went to No. 1. Still, it remains one of Bryan's favorites, especially in his live shows.

"When I look at 'One Margarita,' and what that does for my career," Bryan says. "It is fun in the room. It is fun in the summertime, with 20,000 people. You don't get no more fun than performing 'One Margarita.' If I can periodically have a 'Knockin' Boots' and 'One Margarita,' partnered up with my big, uptempos from 'Kick the Dust Up' and all that, I think it's about in the next year or two, I'd love to have a big old fun summer anthem pop up, 'cause that's fun to have.'"

Bryan has a Top 30 hit right now with "Country Song Came On." With 31 No. 1 hits to his credit, he has, surprisingly, never won Song of the Year for any of his hits, at least so far.
