Jelly Roll Shares Tearful Moment With 'American Idol' Contestant

On this season of American Idol, Jelly Roll has stepped in to be a mentor to the contestants. While he is always full of fun information and advice for the singers, this one moment got him in touch with his sensitive side. Contestant Gabby Samone is to blame for bringing out this tearful moment.

When speaking with Jelly Roll she admitted that up until this point in the competition she had had a wall up. However, in that moment with her mentor, she decided to let her guard down and explain why she was here, singing on the American Idol stage.

Masslive shares some of the details of that conversation. Samone stated, ""I want my parents to relax, and I want my parents to not have to work." I am sure this is a dream that many of us share. From there the singer also addressed her siblings, "and my siblings — I want them to see they can go for their dreams."

In addition to sharing these dreams of hers, Samone also shared some of her hardships. "There were times when we struggled to keep the lights on," she admitted. Her performance of  "It's All Coming Back To Me Now" by Celine Dion was dedicated to her family and all that they had been through and overcome.

Naturally, but the end of the performance everyone, including Jelly Roll, was crying. The tearful moment was one that will surely be remembered by American Idol fans for years to come.

Jelly Roll Shares His Sentiments

Not only did Jelly Roll respect the strength in Samone's story, but he saw a bit of himself in it as well. "It's a pain I understand," the mentor admitted. Then, he told Samone to "keep singing with that 'why'" every time she performed. Although he admits that it can be difficult to be vulnerable, especially on live television, singing with that why will get her far.

Vulnerability helps people connect to you and allows us to see the singer and their heart underneath their stellar vocals. Additionally, it can be a good anchor for any performer. Having a solid reason and foundation for why you are doing what you are doing helps to ground you.
