The Toby Keith Song That Reminds NASCAR Icon Chase Elliott Of His Father

Country music isn't just talked about in country circles. NASCAR legend Chase Elliott holds country music (and all sorts of music, really) very dear to his heart, as one Toby Keith classic reminds him of his father.

Alt_Driver caught up with Chase Elliott at the Talladega Superspeedway in Lincoln, Alabama. There, they chat all about his love for country music. And he's not just a fan, he's a fan.

Before getting into which song reminds him of his father, he also name-dropped the country concert that lives rent-free in his head almost 10 years later. He's been listening to country music all his life, and even saw Eric Church at the Red Rocks in 2016 (I know, lucky guy).

He doesn't just enjoy the genre, however. It holds sentimental value, too.

Seemingly out of nowhere, he said, "Toby Keith comes to mind right now." And the Big Dog Daddy song that I'm basing this article around? It's a classic.

"His 'Should've Been a Cowboy' song. My dad's best friend -- my godfather -- was carrying me around, taking me fishing and stuff when I was a kid, and he was always playing that when we were riding up the road," he recalled.

What a sweet memory.

Chase Elliott Listens To More Than Just Toby Keith, However

Although the memory of "Should've Been A Cowboy" is near and dear to Chase Elliott, he's also a big fan of other big names in the genre.

Aside from Toby Keith and Eric Church, Elliott is also partial to the Muscadine Bloodline (who's latest album we named the best album of the week in our weekly ranking, by the way). I love the Muscadine Bloodline, so to see them being shouted-out by Chase Elliott is insane.

He even served as a guest DJ for SiriusXM, where he played tunes from the likes of Erich Church (of course) Luke Combs, Morgan Wallen, and Megan Moroney.

I'm surprised he didn't play "Should've Been A Cowboy" to honor his dad. But I'm sure he hears that enough in his own time.

Gotta love hearing country love from outside country circles. And this Elliott is no poser.
