Trisha Yearwood Reveals the “Life Changing” Therapy That Got Her Out of Her Funk: “I Either Have Early-Onset Alzheimer’s or Something Else Wrong”

Trisha Yearwood battled some health concerns back in 2020. Little did she know that her struggles with the virus would inspire her new record.

Trisha Yearwood just revealed the treatment that got her through her ugly bout with the SARS-CoV-2 virus. The country star was hit with the illness in 2021, and went months without having smell or taste. She also reported struggling with brain fog and memory problems, a common symptom for those with the virus. However, for Yearwood, the symptoms had gotten so bad that it left her struggling to name even simple household items.

"I would say I'm a long [virus] person," the country singer revealed. "I had all the brain fog ... people were like, 'You are in menopause,' and I would be like, 'Yeah, but this is different because I'm looking at a rolling pin and I can't name it. So, I either have early-onset Alzheimer's or something else wrong.'"

Amidst her recovery journey, Yearwood shared that there was one type of therapy she tried that helped more than anything. She revealed that, although she was hesitant to open up about it at first, it was Low Energy Neurofeedback System (LENS) therapy that changed everything.

"I didn't tell anybody I was going because I was like, 'I don't understand what this does.' But the first thing I noticed was I was sleeping better than I had slept in 10 years," she said. "It changed my life."

How LENs Therapy Inspired Trisha To Write Her New Record

Low Energy Neurofeedback System, or LENS therapy, is a specific type of therapy that measures brainwaves using EEG signals. The idea is that, by sending your brain a signal, dysfunctional patterns can get unstuck. These are often the patterns that make you struggle with symptoms like anxiety and chronic stress.

Yearwood explained that this type of therapy opened up doors for her in more ways than one. After getting rid of mental blocks, Yearwood was finally able to take on challenges she never thought she could. One of these was co-writing all of the songs for her 2025 album.

"I've written some over the years, and I would always preface everything with, 'I'm not a songwriter,'" she told the Today Show. She explained that, when she turned 60, she had a particular "a-ha" moment that just changed the game for her. "Somebody had told me in college that I was not a songwriter," she shared, "and I let it be the truth for 50 years. And I thought that doesn't have to be the truth about me just because somebody says so. And I started writing for me, I didn't ever intend to make a record."

Now, Trisha Yearwood's album, The Mirror, which is completely co-written by her, is available to stream wherever you listen to music.
