Trisha Yearwood, 61, and Garth Brooks, 63, just hit the 20-year mark in their marriage. Wed on December 10, 2005, the country music power couple has released hit after hit and they are still going strong. Yearwood recently spoke candidly abut the role that Brooks plays in her songwriting.

He probably isn't perched beside her on a piano bench tickling the ivories or sitting with her busily strumming his guitar. Still, Brooks does lift Yearwood's confidence when she's got her composing hat on. Per People via Southern Living's Biscuits & Jam podcast, Yearwood discussed the way Brooks thoughtfully reassures her.
Yearwood Noted the Vulnerability That Goes Into Songwriting
The "Walkaway Joe" singer shared, "You have to be really vulnerable and open when you write because you have to say the dumb thing. You have to go, 'Hey, this might work here,' and it might be the dumbest thing you've ever said." She also observed, "You have to feel good about yourself to be able to take that kind of rejection when you're writing."
Yearwood admits that she was tough on herself as a songsmith. It was Brooks who built up her confidence. Actually, he is "one of my biggest cheerleaders," she said. "He was the one who was saying, 'Stop saying you're not a writer. You're a writer.'"
They Have Dissimilar Writing Approaches
They don't go about their songwriting craft the same way. But their individual styles work well for each of them. Yearwood goes about it in an organized, meticulous manner. Brooks, on the other hand, is more freewheeling. Yearwood said, "I'm a Virgo, so I like to sit down, write it all out and have it done. And he likes to not write anything down. He'll throw out a line...and then it disappeared for a couple months."
They Openly Express Their Mutual Affection
For their anniversary last week, Yearwood wrote a sweet post on Instagram. "The very best part of the last 20 years has been you. Merry Christmas, Valentine. I love you. Trisha" A loved-up pic of the happy twosome shows Yearwood giving Brooks a peck on the cheek. His eyes are blissfully shut and he is gently touching her hair.
A fan wrote, "Happy Anniversary you two!! Congrats on 20 years and setting the most beautiful example for the rest of us."
