Willie Nelson Was 'Heartbroken' He Couldn't Smoke Weed Anymore, According to Son Lukas

Willie Nelson was never worried about aging. Getting older is merely a fact of life. Consequently, he could never fear death. However, one thing I'm sure he can admit about getting old is the fact that he can't smoke weed anymore. Thankfully, Nelson has found his way around this obstacle. "My lungs have already said, 'Don't do that,'" Willie tells Forbes in an interview. "So, I don't really do anything now much except a few edibles. I think it's good, the people like it from what I've seen and heard. It's getting to be pretty popular out there."

Still, this doesn't mean that he took the news easily. Smoking weed was such an integral part to his life, a fundamental part of his day. How could he react to such devastating news? According to his son Lukas Nelson, the news rocks his old man exactly the way we might imagine it.

Willie Nelson's Heart Breaks Over Doctor's Orders to Stop Smoking Weed

Recently, Lukas Nelson spoke with Howard Stern on his SiriusXM show. There, he admits that his dad was absolutely "heartbroken" at receiving the news. Stern obviously quips that no one on the planet loves smoking the way his old man Willie did. On a personal note, Lukas stopped "around the pandemic" and that his relationship with weed distinguished himself a little bit. It wouldn't define his world in the same way it did for his father.

"I did feel at a certain point that it was something, not just with my father, but with my old band, that it separated me from that a little bit," Lukas says. "But at a certain point, my father, of anyone, respects someone for being who they are and their individuality." Nelson ends by noting that the biggest lie he ever told himself was believing that he had to be like his dad Willie and his heroes. He had to make their mistakes in order to triumph. Thankfully, Lukas sheds this notion and he feels more comfortable than ever being in his own skin.
