Yellowstone is dead, long live Yellowstone! A sequel series to the popular western is reportedly in the works, and it will feature some familiar faces.

Deadline is reporting that both Kelly Reilly and Cole Hauser have inked deals to continue to play Beth Dutton and Rip Wheeler. Both will reportedly star in the series. So I have to ask why. What's really the point of this?
I'm not a Yellowstone hater. My point is that this sounds less like a spinoff and more like just season six of the show. So why not market it as that, and why market the current season as the curtain call on the Yellowstone ranch? It seems disingenuous.
Now, you may argue that by narrowing the focus on just Rip and Beth then that qualifies as a a spinoff. You're technically correct. But the same report mentions that other cast members from the flagship show will also be joining Rip and Beth as well.
'Yellowstone' Stars Sign Up
So just call it what it is — it's Yellowstone Season 6 without being Yellowstone Season 6. On the surface level, it seems that Paramount is trying to garner finale season buzz without you know, it actually being the final season
Sure the Beth/Rip spin-off might not have Kayce or Jimmy. But characters leave the show all the time. I mean Yellowstone just buried its lead star in a brutal off-screen death, and that was Kevin Costner!
Ultimately, I'm not a big fan of spinoffs. They often distract from the main show. It's hard not to argue that these past few seasons of Yellowstone haven't suffered because all of the various spinoffs going on. Fans might have got a proper finale with Kevin Costner actually going out on-screen if Taylor Sheridan's plate wasn't so full. Heck, we might have got Season 6 and 7 of the actual show.
It's a shame but I digress. According to Deadline, Yellowstone producers MTV Entertainment Studios and 101 Studios entered negotiations with Reilly and Hauser months ago. However, it seems they just inked a deal.
So, it looks like Rip and Beth are pretty safe on the show. Viewers will be pleased to hear.
